Ownership & history:

The name of the château comes from its original owners. The Trevey de Charmail family set up house there in the 16th century. More recently, in 1982, Olivier Sèze took over the reins of the estate. And then, in 2008, it was the turn of Bernard d'Halluin to fall in love with the domain. He decided to buy it, and today, the two men share their passion for making top-notch wine.

Vineyard & location:

Château Charmail is located in the northern part of the Médoc, between the impressive Gironde estuary and the village of Saint-Estèphe. Here there is a cool micro-climate due to the mass of water and some top-quality soil, which make it a great place for growing grapes.

Harvest, vinification & ageing:

The grapes are picked by hand and sorted at the winery. Cold maceration for fifteen days at 5°C for extraction of the primary fruit aromas. Traditional red Bordeaux wine fermentation followed by ageing in oak casks for twelve months.


The wines of Château Charmail are characterised by a cassis nose, firm tannins and decent length. They make an excellent accompaniment to beef, lamb, game and hard cheeses.
