HAUT-MEDOC Rouge (Red)

Print the sheet

Ownership & history:

One of the oldest châteaux in the Médoc, d'Agassac was built in the 13th century. The château has been completely renovated and is one of the few in Bordeaux to be surrounded by a moat.

Vineyard & location:

Château d'Agassac is in the southern part of the Haut-Médoc appellation, just twenty minutes' drive away from the city of Bordeaux.

Harvest, vinification & ageing:

The grapes are picked by hand. Vinification is carried out in atypically wide, squat stainless steel vats, allowing a higher skin contact/surface area to volume ratio that enhances the extraction of primary fruit aromas. The wine is aged in French oak barrels.

A finely textured nose with aromas of jammy wild fruit (blackcurrant, whortleberry and blackberry). The amplitude of the tannins is simply astonishing. Their softness is offset by a slight tang, giving the impression of freshness. The finish is seemingly endless with hints of bay leaves, black pepper and camphor. After a few minutes, the tasting gains in warmth, highlighting the notes of moorland and smoky Provençal herbs.

Vintage :

50% Merlot 47% Cab. Sauvignon 3% Cab. Franc
