Ownership & history:

Château Le Coteau in Margaux has been in the same family for several generations and was listed in the first Cru Bourgeois classification of 1932. However, as of the 2009 vintage, the owner has decided to quit the cru bourgeois system because he disagrees with the new rules.

Vineyard & location:

The vines are planted around the villages of Arsac and Labarde, amongst the vineyards of his prestigious neighbours, such as Château du Tertre, Château d'Angludet and Château Giscours. Sustainable farming is implemented.

Harvest, vinification & ageing:

The grapes are picked by hand. Traditional red wine vinification. Ageing in French oak barrels for one year with 30% of the barrels
renewed each year. Racking every three months before bottling, which takes place eighteen months after the harvest.


Château Le Coteau is a classic Margaux, imbued with a finesse that comes from blending four different grape varieties. The high proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon(65%) gives blackcurrant and smoky aromas, along with the ability to age well.
The Merlot and Cabernet Franc bring red fruit aromas and a smooth and velvety body. The Petit Verdot brings intense colour and a spicy finish.
