Ownership & history:

The Bouchara family made their fortune in the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries, and bought Château Tour de Pez in 1989. Since then they have invested massively in the estate, and quality has been on the rise ever since. In addition to producing Château Tour de Pez, they also make a second wine, Les Hauts de Pez.

Vineyard & location:

The estate covers 30 hecatres of the Saint-Estèphe AOC and benefits from clayey limestone soil with a gravel covering.

Harvest, vinification & ageing:

The grapes for Les Hauts de Pez are picked by hand and sorted twice, firstly in the vineyard and then in the winery. Vinification is controlled at 26°C and the vatting period is three weeks. Ageing takes place in barrels, 50% of which have been used for one prior vintage and 50% of which have been used for two prior vintages. All the barrels are French, with the oak sourced from Allier. Fining is done with egg whites.

This wine shows crisp fruit and good structure with rounded tannins. There is a long aromatic finish. The château suggest serving it with grilled meats and soft, young cheeses.
