CHATEAU DE VIELLA TRADITION
MADIRAN Rouge (Red)

Print the sheet

Ownership & history:

Château de Viella has belonged to the Bortolussi family for three generations. The château itself, an impressive 18th century building, looms over the vineyard. Previously abandoned for more than a century and left in a state of ruin, it has now been restored. Its vaults house a magnificent cellar full of wine barrels.

Harvest, vinification & ageing:

Intense nose of very ripe fruits like damson, strawberry and rapsberry thanks to the southern exposure. A full-bodied wine with fruit-coated tannins. Can be drunk young but can also be laid down for a good decade or so.

Tasting:

Long maceration of 28 days in stainless steel vats for an optimum extraction of the colour pigments and tannins from the Tannat. Partly aged in oak barrels for twelve months with one third of the barrels renewed each year.

2014

60% Tannat
40% Cab. Franc
