Ownership & history:

This estate was bought by the Demarchi family in 1964, although it went by a different name at the time: Domaine de Haut Brion. This was stopped in 1989 though, when the domain took on its present moniker. Since 2001, it is the Demarchi children, Laurent and Patricia, who have been working the estate, making wines in both the Médoc and Haut-Médoc appellations.

Vineyard & location:

Château Haut Queyran consists of 15 hectares of vines in the north of the Médoc, just above Saint-Estèphe. The soil here is made up of clayey limestone.

Harvest, vinification & ageing:

The grapes are picked by machine and taken to the winery. Vinifcation takes place in stainless steel tanks and ageing is in a mix of concete and oak.


On the nose, there is a mix of spice and the forest fruits that are typical of the region. The mouth is precise and shows further fruit. The finish is lengthy. When young, this wine benefits from decanting before serving. It makes an excellent accompaniment to hard cheeses and grilled meats.
