CHATEAU TOUR DU CAUZE
SAINT-EMILION GRAND CRU Rouge (Red)

Print the sheet

Ownership & history:

The current château was built in the 19th century on the ruins of a mediaeval castle. There was a string of different owners until 1986, when the Laporte family bought the entire property. Today, Bruno Laporte is in charge, producing Château du Cauze and Château Tour du Cauze, both of which are AOP Saint-Emilion Grand Cru.

Vineyard & location:

The property is located on the eastern side of the Saint-Emilion plateau. The gentle hills provide shelter from the north and west, an incline towards the sun, and relative immunity to frost. The soil in this part of Saint-Emilion consists of clay and limestone.

Harvest, vinification & ageing:

The grapes are partly picked by hand, partly by machine.Vinification is fairly standard, with a three week vatting period, and ageing is carried out in oak. The barrels come from a variety of different cooperages; they are all French medium-toast though and one third are renewed each year.
