Ownership & history:

Husband and wife Frans and Liz Roskam took charge of this estate in 2005. Frans is from a family that has been making wine since 1937; Liz is the first American woman to have graduated in Oenology from the University of Bordeaux (Class of '05)

Vineyard & location:

The vines at Haut Plantey Declerq are on average 35 years old. There are two distinct soil types at the estate: well-drained alluvial gravel terraces on the one hand, deep clay on the other. The former is perfect for growing Cabernet Sauvignon, the latter for growing Merlot.

Harvest, vinification & ageing:

Grapes from each plot of land are vinified separately at Haut Plantey Declerq. All tanks are temperature controlled, some are stainless steel and some are concrete. The wine is aged for twelve months before bottling, one third in oak barrels. This relatively short ageing period helps to retain some of the primary fruit flavours in the wine. The consultant oenologist at the estate is Eric Boissenot, who consults at a great many cru classé estates including Lafite, Latour, Mouton and Margaux.


This wine shows good primary fruit and has a silky structure. It makes an excellent accompaniment to grilled meats.
