CHATEAU ETOILE DE VIAUD
LALANDE-DE-POMEROL Rouge (Red)

Print the sheet

Ownership & history:

The Chevalier family have been making wine in Bordeaux for four generations. The two brothers in charge today bought seven hectares of vines in Viaud in 1996. Etoile means "star" in French, so the Château name translates as "The Star of Viaud".

Vineyard & location:

The Chevalier family's estate is made up of 50 hectares: 40 in the Fronsadais, seven in Lalande-de-Pomerol and one-and-a-half in Saint Emilion Grand Cru. The soil consists of sandy gravel and silt deposits.

Harvest, vinification & ageing:

Harvest is carried out by machine, and the grapes are sorted twice: first in the trailer, then again at the winery, where six people staff a sorting table. The winery itself is technologically up to date, and a variety of modern techniques are used, most notably micro-oxygenation.

Tasting:

Château Etoile de Viaud shows ripe red fruit on the nose and is complex and elegant in the mouth. It is a lovely example of 2015, an excellent right-bank vintage.
